Vitamins

In the early 1900s, scientists discovered substances in food that are essential to life. Because of the amino acid structures central to their function, they were named vital amines, later shortened to vitamins. Vitamins were found to prevent illness and treat disease.

Most vitamins produce their best results in the presence of specific naturally occurring cofactors, including trace minerals, enzymes, co-enzymes and other vitamins. A natural balance exists between the vitamin and its cofactors. Many of these cofactors have yet to be discovered and/or their function fully understood. Therefore, we only recommend whole food supplements. They are made from raw organically grown whole food. They contain all the vitamins, cofactors and as yet undiscovered nutrients in precise balance within the natural law.

Today, most of the vitamin formulas on the market are synthetic. Many are created in a laboratory by culturing yeast on petroleum coal tar. Some started from food but were subjected to a variety of chemical treatments rendering them nearly deplete of nutrients and biological activity. In many cases, they create secondary nutrient imbalances leading to physical ailments.

In a perfect world, food would provide all the nutrients we need. However, commercially grown food (the stuff in supermarkets) is produced with the goals of long shelf life and profitability, as opposed to food nutrient value and health promotion. Fast food and frozen food with its vast array of preservatives, additives and trans-fats are markedly worse. Organic food is the best food available. Unfortunately, even organic food will not supply all the nutrients we need. Therefore we recommend whole food supplements to fill in the nutrients missing, even from the best foods available. Whole food supplements are used in addition to good food and never as a replacement for food.
The consumption of sugar, refined flour, hydrogenated oils, alcohol, tobacco, and many prescription and over-the-counter drugs are known to deplete the body of vitamins.
Here is a cursory summary of the major vitamins in our food:
